‘Looking for Men’ – our closing Festival event!

Masculinity

In Partnership with

Harry's

Our Festival of New Masculinity will climax on 19th March with photographer Dean Chalkley attempting to shoot 100 men in a day for a unique 'instant' exhibition.

How can we end this Festival, we thought? Casually? With a studied shrug, an insouciant nod? No, not this week, brother.

Of course, we wanted to go out loudly with a heroic clarion call, and boy will we. We have spent this festival giving a platform to some incredible people who are positing new thinking around masculinity, but now it’s time to turn the spotlight on you, the audience…

‘Looking for Men’ will be a unique ‘instant’ exhibition put together by renowned cult photographer Dean Chalkley in which he’ll be attempting to shoot 100 men in one day at The Book Club venue. He’ll be shooting on instant film using a Lomography camera and the images will immediately go up on a display wall to build up the exhibition in real time.

The aim is to literally take a snapshot of men today to show that we are all the stars. It is up to all of us to break free of boundaries holding us back as men and make a positive impact on the people and places we deal with, every day. It’s about unity, and defiance to outmoded stereotypes and systems, and remaking the world in a different way, at a time crying out for hope and leaders.

You can pop along to the venue from 9am to 7pm for the chance to have your photo taken by Dean for the exhibition. Email marian@thebookofman.com for a time slot to guarantee your place.

You can also buy tickets to the evening event for the chance to be shot by Dean as the day reaches its conclusion, and entrance to a live podcast about the changing representations of men today, and what can be done to improve the way men see themselves. This will feature Dean, Oscar from Acid Jazz Records, Matt Hiscock from Harry’s, and Simon Gunning from CALM.

The event is in partnership with Harry’s, whose work on supporting men, and putting forward new representations of men, is inspirational.

We will also be showing a brand new art piece created from photos from Dean’s unique archive showing his incredible work during the years which has delved into sub-cultures, music scenes, and masculinity.

Tickets also include access to an after-party to celebrate the end of The Festival of New Masculinity. It is going to be a big night…
