The Penis Gallery is back
Masculinity
New penis gallery - our taboo-busting event is back, calling for normal representations of penises as a retort to porn culture
Yes, our legendary penis gallery is back, to celebrate the male form and promote positive discussion around our genitalia. Porn culture promotes the idea of normal being one, giant size of penis, but the reality is they come in all shapes, sizes, colours and with their own quirks. After our first penis gallery at our Festival of New Masculinity and the second in 2020 we are returning with the event on 12th January 2024 as part of London Metropolitan University’s ‘Penis Conference’.
Tickets are free, you can reserve your spot here.
And we need some penises! Send your pics to martin@thebookofman.com
Strictly flaccid penises only, this is not about porn or showing off. Black and white pics please – let’s keep things a bit arty!
Here are some further details of the Conference from London Met:
The disparity between men and women in physical and mental health is notable. According to the World Health Organisation, ‘men demonstrate unhealthier smoking practices, unhealthier dietary patterns, higher alcohol consumption levels and higher rates of injuries and interpersonal violence than women’. Additionally, men experience higher mental health difficulties than women and are less likely to seek support, including well-being services.
Toxic masculinity still dominates societal perceptions of “traditional masculine traits,” which becomes reinforced with phrases such as ‘man up’ or ‘be a man’. This further supports stereotypical gender roles regarding health-related matters, including access to healthcare services. Toxic masculinity affects men’s health on a global scale, having detrimental effects on both physical and mental well-being.
We are therefore organising a conference looking at male health, body politics and wellness to promote awareness on this subject. This would be the first of its kind; hence, this initial pilot event would involve a small venue to establish its popularity. This would be a one-day event with research presentations available online and in person.
