Aviator jackets for Masters of the Air fans

Masters of the air jackets for those who have watched the series and decided that despite all the death, it's a damn good look they have...
Masters of the Air is the currently the best show on TV (and there’s some seriously stiff competition out there), an exhilarating, breathtaking and moving look at the 100th Bomb Group in World War II, a squadron US airmen based in the UK who embarked on “suicidal” daylight bombing missions against the Nazis. It is quite something, with Austin Butler, Callum Turner and Barry Keoghan winning plaudits for their performances. But as much as we’re enjoying them and the spectacular sweep of the show, we’re also deeply into the aviator gear they were, particularly the flight jackets.
They were made with incredible attention to details by expert film costume department heads who are former military men:
Now getting something so authentic would be difficult, not to mention a little tasteless, but we can nevertheless still buy some cool jackets as a homage or, hell, just entirely divorced from the show because they look cool. Whatever your reasoning, here’s our choice picks:
Leather Aviator Jacket – Louis Vuitton, £4750
Luxurious leather jacket with a removable shearling collar. For the uber fashionable, high rolling man about town. Not exactly military issue but well, this is fashion.
–
Rookie Winter Aviator Bomber Jacket – Superdry, £45 sale price
Avoid the leather, and expense, with this natty thing from Superdry. Looks cool when worn with layers and gives the look without trying too hard. Nice little buy, and currently on sale.
–
Topman faux shearling aviator jacket in black – Asos, £45 in the sale
Another budget option that has more of an authentic look without being too crazy expensive. In black, it has a Brando vibe, or at least a Nasty Nick from Eastenders vibe.
–
Battle of Britain 1940 RAF Sheepskin Flying Jacket – Goldtop, £549
More like the real deal, made from 100% sheepskin leather and based on the original jackets worn by air men during the Battle of Britain. Just try to resist saying ‘tally-ho’ every few minutes or you will lose friends.
–
Shearling Aviator Jacket – Brunello Cucinelli, £7600
Way up on the luxury end of things again, this is an elite jacket made with unbelievable craftsmanship by this Italian label. Unbelievable price too.
–
Leather Bomber Jacket – Hackett, £660 in sale
Lovely Hackett bomber that brings some aviator cool but also feels stylish and contemporary. Huge discount in the sale at the moment. Worth the money…
