Fitness
Our pick of bodyweight arm workouts which have been a welcome source of burn to punctuate the home working days.
We’ve been rinsing the video bodyweight exercise tutorials since lockdown, building taut physiques like lifers in an LA county jail. Probably. Maybe we’re glamourising prisoners a little. All we’re saying is that we have enjoyed the benefits and discipline of working out at home, it’s been a crucial part of maintaining our mental health this last year. Bully Juice’s 5 minute arm workout
This is a killer but a winner, particularly once you try the fist press-ups. The plank-ups are also a challenge, but your triceps will be grinning afterwards:
Caroline Girvan’s 15-min Push Arm Workout
There’s some tough moves here requiring some proper flexibility but it’s fun – the Crow Hold! – and is a real burner…
Arnie’s muscle principles
Slight cheat this one, as it does involve weights, but well, any excuse, plus it’s informative to hear Arnie’s key principles about shocking muscles into growth by varying the exercises. The arms bit starts at 7.10.
Yoga workout for arm strength
Following on from Arnie’s mantra, doing some yoga will shake things up on the arm front. At this point in time, acknowledging that yoga’s hard is no longer necessary, but still: this is surprisingly bloody hard.
Home tricep exercises
We like how this guy has incorporated an actual living space into the exercises, with tricep dips on couches, extensions on a kitchen worktop, etc. which has certainly been our way while stuck in the house. Literally anything becomes training equipment for a quick burn, ‘yeah I’ll curl this food processor…’ – but here’s how to do it safely…
