Today's headlines: avocado shortages in New Zealand have resulted in thefts for black market sales; watch Obama moved to tears by Aretha; Toni Kroos calls Ozil's racism claims "nonsense."
Black Market Avocado In New Zealand
A shortage of avocados due to two years of low harvests in New Zealand has led to a crop theft crime wave. Prices of the fruit have soared to £3 each, and it’s led to criminals stealing from orchards to sell them on the black market. Two robbers were recently caught fleeing an orchard carrying duvets with $4,300 worth of avocados on them. One officer commented, “It’s clearly not for their own consumption. You can only put so much avocado on your burger or in your sushi.”
When Aretha Brought Obama to Tears
In the wake of Aretha Franklin’s death many heartfelt tributes have been paid – yeah, thanks for yours Donald – and a lot of emotional footage uncovered. One of the most moving features Aretha when she made a surprise appearance in honour of Carole King at the Kennedy Centre in Washington. Obama was in the balcony, and, six years after she had sung at his inauguration, Aretha sang ‘Natural Woman’ and made the then president weep.
Kroos Disputes Ozil’s Racism claims
After Mesut Ozil’s resignation from the Germany team and his statement revealing the “racism and disrespect” at the German international level, the world was appalled at his treatment. Not Toni Kroos though, who in an interview with German newspaper Bild, called his claims “nonsense”. He said, “I think he knows very well that racism within the national team and the DFB does not exist.”
